Born in Mexico City in 1956, Alicia began formally studying drawing and painting at the age of 14 with painters Mario Catalá and José Barón. From the age of 17 to 21, she expanded her artistic foundation by studying sculpture under professors Jorge Alarcón and Saúl Moreno. In 1976, she became an apprentice to sculptor Jorge Alarcón, and just a year later, she earned a scholarship to attend the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, Italy.
During her time in Italy, Alicia created sculptures for La Scala in Milan, one of the most renowned opera houses in the world. In 1982, she continued her studies in sculpture at the Instituto Regional de Bellas Artes in Cuernavaca, Morelos. Alicia has shared her passion for art by teaching drawing, mural painting, and sculpture since she was 18 years old.
In 1978, Alicia opened her first gallery in Valle de Bravo, Estado de México. Six years later, she expanded her vision by opening two additional galleries in Cuernavaca, Morelos. Since 1973, Alicia has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Mexico and internationally. Her body of work includes sculptures in a variety of mediums, such as bronze, marble, stone, wood, metal, and glass reliefs.
Since 1999, Alicia has lived and worked in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. Her work has been showcased in several prominent galleries in the area, including Arte de las Américas, Dante, Art by Design, Galería Uno, Galería EM, NordSouth, and Galería Hakari at the Four Seasons Hotel in Punta Mita. She currently displays a collection of full-size, representative sculptures throughout the premises of the Four Seasons Hotel. Specializing in monumental bronze sculptures, Alicia brings her clients’ visions to life through bespoke art commissions.
In January 2009, Alicia inaugurated Dream Studio, a creative hub designed to support and nurture international artists. Dream Studio is the first creative business incubator of its kind in Mexico, offering affordable studio space, expert guidance, and resources for up to 15 artists and designers. Located in central Puerto Vallarta, the studio provides mentorship, exhibition opportunities, and the tools necessary for artistic and professional success. It is a vibrant space for cutting-edge sculpture and painting, fostering talent from its early stages to international recognition.
Dream Studio is open to the public Tuesday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Visitors are welcome to explore the space and experience Alicia’s dedication to the arts firsthand.
